Overview
Throughout the courses offered in the Education Department, each course discusses the issue of educational equity in the United States. From class readings, media and student testimonies we have been exposed to several cases of inequity and how many times it is a result of sociocultural, socioeconomic and historical practices. Our schools have had a focus on equality but due to recent studies and discussions, more educators are seeing the importance of equity and applying it in their classrooms. We can use the unique backgrounds of our students to access what they need and provide it to them so they can be as successful as possible.

The Achievement Gap
In this writing piece, I had the opportunity to explore Gloria Ladson-Billings theory of the achievement gap. In this, I consider many sources that address the issue of the achievement gap and educational debt. Due to the differences in students, they each need something different a when don't receive that the school leaves them in education debt. This debt puts them behind fro their peers creating the achievement gap. In finding and using these sources, I was able to deepen my understanding on how sociocultural contexts and the history of schooling practices are influencing the education of diverse students today.

School Dress Codes
This artifact explores dress codes in public schools and how they negatively impact the education of young women. As dress codes were something that directly influenced me I was passionate about learning more about this topic. The bodies of these young women are often sexualized based on sociocultural beliefs that often lead to girls being kicked out of school for bearing skin. These problems often arise when it is warm and these girls are removed from the classroom being told that their shorts a tank tops are distracting the boys. The research for this paper deepened my interest in this topic as female education is suffering due to the need to stay cool in the heat.
